Lamartine Griffin Hardman Papers, I. Harmony Grove Mill records (1902-1947) contain correspondence, orders, informational bulletins, ledgers, production records and other materials from the Harmony Grove Mills, Inc. The majority of papers document daily production-related correspondence between cotton brokerage firms and Harmony Grove Mills between the years 1927-1947. Also included are correspondence and circulars from the Cotton Textile Institute. Lamartine Griffin Hardman Papers, Series XII: Maps and Architectural Drawings consists of six large maps of Georgia. The architectural drawing blueprints consist of sixty-three separate items. Included are blueprints and plats for the Hurricane Shoals Water and Power Plant, the State Capitol in Atlanta, the Hardman residences, and the land holdings of the Hardman family. A very rare lithograph, Bird's Eye View of Pelham, Georgia, published by Fowler and Downs, Morrisville, PA in 1908, is especially noteworthy.

Thomas W. Hardwick (1872-1944), a lawyer and Democrat from Thomasville, Georgia served in the Georgia House of Representatives (1898-1902), represented the 10th district (which included the counties Columbia, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, Washington, Wilkinson, and Baldwin) in the United State House of Representatives (1903-1914), and was elected to serve in the United State Senate (1914-1919). After an unsuccessful candidacy for renomination, Hardwick later became governor of Georgia from 1921 to 1923. The collection consists of four letters from Hardwick to constituents Dr. T. M. McIntosh and Mr. R. T. Jones and relates to Hardwick's opinions on taxation during his gubernatorial years.

Lamartine G. Hardman was elected governor of Georgia in 1926 and again in 1928 (term 1927-1931). The Governor series consists of correspondence and material pertaining to political appointments, bills, speeches, and miscellaneous information used by Governor Hardman. In these files researchers can locate information relating to the initial phase of reorganizing the state government (a process completed under Hardman's successor, Richard B. Russell, Jr.), health care issues, education, and Governor Hardman's interest in fingerprinting and phrenology. These papers document the personal life of Melvin Ernest (M. E.) Thompson, Georgia's first lieutenant governor and participant in the famed "Three Governors Controversy." The collection consists of personal correspondence, certificates and diplomas, history regarding the Thompson and Edenfield families, clippings, campaign speeches and announcements, and Sunday school sermons delivered by M. E. Thompson. Two hundred and nineteen, primarily black-and-white, photographs depict the Thompson family; the dedication of the Little White House at Warm Springs in 1947; Thompson's campaigns; members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate (1947-1948); and the unveiling of Thompson's portrait at the State Capitol. Of particular interest are the six television campaign advertisements featuring Thompson's views about the county unit system, automobile tags, taxation, the state highway system and toll roads, and the integration of Georgia's public schools.

Consists of one letter written by R.W. McCormick at Oglethorpe University and sent to his friend "Rachel." McCormick writes about the inauguration of Governor Herschel V. Johnson on November 7, 1855 in Milledgeville, Georgia. He writes that many in attendance represented the "beauty and chivalry of the Empire State of the South." The letter also describes that the number of women in attendance was "so numerous that they occupied most of the seats so that the legislators were obliged to stand." At the end of the letter, McCormick also gives a detailed and unflattering description of Robert Toombs and Alexander Stephens, who were both in attendance. The author of the letter is probably Robert Warnock McCormick, who attended Oglethorpe University at this time according to Allen P. Tankersley's 1951 book College Life at Old Oglethorpe. McCormick was a pastor, who lived from 1828-1879, according to the Necrological Reports and Annual Proceedings of the Alumni Association of Princeton Theological Seminary, Volume 1 by the Princeton Theological Seminary in 1891.

The collection consists of papers of Herschel Vespasian Johnson and his family from 1832-1976. Papers include a copy of Johnson's autobiography, an album containing poetry, writings, and drawings, a few newspaper clippings, and correspondence. The autobiography, a copy of the original manuscript written by Johnson in 1867, covers Johnson's entire political career. Correspondence is mainly from Johnson to his daughter Tallulah Horne and her husband Pearce, with several to his daughter Gertrude discussing primarily family matters.
